York is the first campaign level of Resistance: Fall of Man.
Synopsis[]
In late 1949, Europe was invaded by hostile creatures called the Chimera. Within a year, the Chimera had conquered mainland Europe before finally turning their attention on Britain by burrowing underneath the English Channel and overwhelmed the British within three months. British military forces were reduced and forced to retreat to the countryside. Meanwhile, the United States fell to isolationism and suppressed knowledge of the Chimera's existence from the American public. Despite America's neutrality, the U.S. government soon sends military support to the British in exchange for a "secret weapon."
On July 11, 1951, a U.S. task force is dispatched to York as part of Operation Deliverance to retrieve the "secret weapon". Among those soldiers is Nathan Hale. However, the British convoy that was supposed to meet the Americans are intercepted by the Chimera. The Americans, who are unprepared to face the Chimera, are ambushed by the Chimera. Many human soldiers are either killed or infected by swarms of Crawlers with the Chimeran virus. Sergeant Hale, however, inexplicably survives and discovers that he has an innate resistance to full infection. Instead, he gains increased strength and reflexes, the ability to instantly heal light injuries, and gold-colored irises, a common trait of the Chimera.
Hale makes his way through York before rendezvousing with Captain Winters and the remains of the 1st Ranger Regiment at a bus depot. Captain Winters ordered Hale and the remains of the regiment to clear a landing zone for reinforcements in the middle of the bus depot. Although the humans achieve a victory and secure this depot, the Chimera launched spire missiles on their position and releasing swarms of Crawlers. The comatose soldiers, along with an unconscious Hale, are then taken to a conversion center in Grimsby.

Trivia[]
- It is possible to save about eighteen US Rangers NPCs throughout the York mission. At the start of the mission, the player can prevent an entire squad of Rangers being killed by a car explosion if the player prematurely blows up that car. It is also possible to save a large number of Rangers in the same way further on. After advancing down the next road where the player comes under artillery fire, the player will reach a square where several Hybrids will appear on a balcony. It is possible to save five Rangers from enemy fire at this location; three of them will stand in the open, one will go behind a car in the back and one will go off to the very left. Further on, the player can also save two Rangers inside a building, as well as the US medic and another soldier that joins you when you are attacked by Leapers.
- The Medic that revives Hale at the start of the second mission has a green cross on his helmet due to British Copyright on the Red Cross. [1]
