The XR-42 Phoenix is an incredibly advanced Chimeran weapon that appears in the Cooperative campaign of Resistance 2. It can only be equipped by the Medic.

Description[]

The Phoenix fires a beam of energy which regenerates human tissue on a cellular level. It is also capable draining health from Chimeran units and using that stolen energy to restore the health of friendly targets. The Phoenix was recovered by Specter Team from a conversion center in Shanghai, China, and the SRPA recognized its value and had made it a mandatory apparatus to all SRPA field teams. The Phoenix's design and function remains unknown to SRPA technicians.

Trivia[]

  • The weapon is named after the legendary Phoenix, which is said to die in flames and is reborn from the ashes left behind. There is also a ribbon award for killing a Chimera with the Phoenix known as "Ashes to Ashes".
  • The Phoenix visually resembles to the Arc Charger from Resistance: Fall of Man.
  • It is possible to kill any Chimeran enemy present in the Co-op using this weapon, as the rate of healing the player (per second) is higher than the rate of damage inflicted by it. This leads to the creations of long drawn out battles whereby the player is preserved from enemy attacks provided continued use of the weapon.
  • The Phoenix on its own is ineffective, however as the Co-op involves players working as a team the process of completing missions is speed up by the presence of players of other classes. The role of the Medic being to keep these players alive to complete these objectives.
  • The LED indicator on the weapon helps indicate the current amount of Secondary Fire ammunition on the weapon, there is a part that is numbers and another that is a rectangle, in the updated version of the weapon another rectangle will appear on the LED, and it indicates that the player is using the weapon's Primary Fire.
    • The numbers are the weapon's current available amount of Secondary Fire.
    • The rectangle will form up to 5 squares, when five squares are filled, 1 number increases the amount of current Secondary Fire ammunition of the weapon, in the updated version these squares are visible fixedly.
    • In the updated version of the weapon, another rectangle will appear on the LED, which will indicate when the player is using the weapon's Primary Fire.
