Thomas Voss was the Assistant Secretary of the Interior under Harvey McCullen and later acting 36th President of the United States of America. He appears in the novel Resistance: A Hole in the Sky.

Biography[]

Voss became acting president after his predecessor, General Douglas MacArthur, was killed by a Titan in the Battle of Phoenix. Furthermore, Voss was the only known surviving candidate available on the succession list and he was willing to surrender the reins of government to anyone on the official list if they are alive.[1] Although representing as the leader of America, his title as "President" was considered obsolete given the downfall of the country to the Chimera, in which Voss was already quite aware of and he believed that his actions can only earn the respect of his people.

On July 3, 1953, Voss personally led U.S. military forces, alongside with SRPA and resistance fighters of Freedom First, to launch a desperate assault on Chimera-occupied New York City to shut down the Chimeran tower that powers the wormhole. Voss also hoped the attack on the tower would become a morale boost for the surviving American population. However, the attack utterly failed that costed many lives, and Voss and the survivors were forced to retreat.[1]

After Voss returned to Freedom Base, he devoted his intentions to distribute the Hale Vaccine to the entire human population. Voss even took part in a field test in which he and others who had been inoculated allowed themselves to be bitten by a captured Spinner to prove the vaccine's efficiency.[1]
