The Siege of Genoa took place on January 1950 that saw the downfall of Italy to the Chimera, and sealing mainland Europe under Chimeran occupation.

Italy became one of the last remaining nations in mainland Europe that have yet to fall to the Chimera. Human military forces desperately tried to halt the Chimera's advance at Genoa, but only to be overwhelmed by the sheer number and extreme durability of the Chimera. Allied soldiers were greatly demoralized by their alien enemy's relentless tenacity, whom they referred to them as "the deathless plague", or "demoni".[2]

Eventually, the defenders were unable to withstand the Chimera's onslaught, and Genoa fell to the invaders. It had been reported that hundreds of Italian soldiers committed suicide to avoid fighting the Chimera or worse, turning into them. Shortly thereafter, Italy was laid in ruins.
