- "It is happening!"
- ―Dr. Fyodor Malikov
San Francisco is the second campaign level of Resistance 2.
Synopsis[]
Following their escape from Iceland, Blake informs Hale that he will be taken to SRPA 3, a facility near San Francisco, where Dr. Fyodor Malikov run some tests on him before joining others like Hale who are infused with the Chimeran virus: the Sentinels, a group of elite soldiers created by SRPA.
Two years later, Hale is promoted to Lieutenant and is given command of Echo Team, consisting Sergeant Benjamin Warner, Corporal Joseph Capelli, and Specialist Aaron Hawthorne. Hale is put on the same regimen of inhibitors to prevent the virus from changing him further.
On May 15, 1953, the Chimera launches a full-scale invasion of the United States, attacking the east and west coasts with an aerial fleet of airships. In San Francisco, Hale and Echo Team are stationed in SRPA 3, where the western division of the Chimeran fleet are approaching the city. Hale is awaken from his inhibitor treatment with Dr. Malikov as the base's defenses are breached by Chimeran forces, which include a Kraken.
Hale and Echo Team assists in neutralizing the invaders while at several times being attacked by the Kraken. After reuniting with Malikov, Hale and the doctor reaches the surface where they witness the Chimeran fleet laying waste to San Francisco. Hale then proceed to escort Malikov for his evacuation from SRPA 3. During the furious battle, Hale helped Warner in utilizing the base's artillery cannon which seriously crippled one of the Chimeran battleships. Once escorting Malikov for his evacuation, and realizing that his viral inhibitors are still within SRPA 3, Hale volunteers in retrieving the inhibitors. After having retrieved the inhibitors and awaiting extraction via VTOL, Hale is confronted by the Kraken. Ultimately, Hale managed to kill the Kraken with a Pulse Cannon before being extracted and sent to regroup with Echo in pursing the Chimeran battleship that was damaged earlier by Warner.

Tips[]
- The Attack Drone appears for the first time in this level. The player must listen to his teammates with their instructions, if necessary can activate the game's subtitles in the options menu, so can read the teammates' instructions, this will help progress in the mission.
- If after facing the first Kraken, you keep the MP-47 Pulse Cannon weapon until the part where you have to face 2 titans, you will have the possibility to use that weapon together with the L210 LAARK weapon to face them.
Trivia[]
- San Francisco is one of the stages in PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.
- Although the level does not take place within San Francisco, SRPA 3 is close enough to have visual contact with the city. The position of SRPA III's is located on Treasure Island.[1]
- The San Francisco-linked suspension bridge seen in this level is the San Francisco – Oakland Bay Bridge, which could be confused with the more iconic Golden Gate Bridge.
- There is a U.S. flag with 50 stars. This is an anachronism as the flag should have 48 stars as Hawaii and Alaska were still territories in 1953.
- Furies, Titans, Ravagers, Steelheads, and Attack Drones first appear in this level.
- There are two moments in San Francisco where, if the player doesn't progress, Aaron Hawthorne says something to Nathan Hale that normally wouldn't be said if the player did progress.
- At the beginning when Malikov is examining Nathan with a flashlight, if you look down the corridor you'll see no person approaching. But then all of a sudden Sgt. Warner appears next to the player.
- In the Tactical Command mission, right at the beginning after Kraken tries to break the glass, you walk in the corridor until the first 2 Furies appear, if you notice well, at the beginning, under the broken bridge, you will see two scientists in the water asking for help, one of scientists appears to be unconscious in the water while the other tries to help, but after a few seconds, they are killed by a Fury under water, this event does not repeat if you die, but if you leave and return to the mission you can see it again.
- After meeting with Malikov and clearing out the room with two levels and Furies separating two parts, one of the deceased Hybrids is colored black. Its cooling unit is black with the usual red parts turned blue.
- After going up in an elevator and before seeing the Chimeran ships, when you are still inside the building, the ceiling has tubular lamps that are turned on and without protection if you shoot a few shots at the lamps it is possible to destroy them, and in the Landing Platform mission in a green corridor with burning boxes there are also some circular lamps that are hanging with light on that can also be destroyed and even more easily.
- Landing Platform mission:
- In the green corridor where there are green boxes burning if you go straight ahead in that corridor you will find a dead Black Ops soldier with fragmentation grenades and a Magnum. If it is your first time there you will also have an Intel, going back you will find enemies, but if you had gone directly to collect the inhibitors, these enemies would not appear to you.
- In the part where you have to face a Ravager and some Hybrids, if you leave only one Hybrid Alive and walk so that the hybrid gets very close to the flames, it is possible that he will die without you having hit him directly.
