The base served as a coastal military defense station which protected San Francisco and houses long range anti-aircraft gun batteries. The installations of the batteries were upgraded as a direct response to two Chimeran airships that were sighted off of San Francisco within gun range on August 9, 1952. SRPA 3 also served as a research facility which is usually observed and worked by Dr. Fyodor Malikov, and possessing a moon pool, possibly used for testing water-based experiments such as weapons and vehicles.
SRPA 3 was attacked by the Chimera on May 15, 1953 alongside the nearby city of San Francisco during the Chimeran fleet's invasion of America. In an effort to cripple the base's defense, the Chimera deployed a Kraken, which breached the station's tactical command room and flooded portions of the base, rendering SRPA units unable to communicate effectively. Additionally, shortly after Echo Team sealed the moon pool, the Kraken ambushed the team, and destroyed it, further flooding the station and separating the Sentinel unit. The scattered SRPA forces eventually regrouped near an anti-aircraft gun under the command of Echo Team, which heavily damaged a nearby Chimeran battleship, forcing it to flee to Orick, California. However, with Chimeran forces overrunning much of the station, SRPA forces were forced to evacuate the facility, unfortunately in the chaos, X-Ray Squad was unable to secure the viral inhibitors. Lt. Hale subsequently volunteered to retrieve it whilst Echo Team redeployed to track the damaged battleship.
Securing the vials, Hale arrived at the station's helipad where he encountered the Kraken one final time before killing it with a MP-47 Pulse Cannon. Shortly afterwards, Victor Twenty arrived to extract Hale where he was re-deployed to travel in a ground convoy heading into Orick.
- Judging by SRPA 3's location in Resistance 2, it seems to be implied to be located on Yerba Buena Island, which is located near the Oakland Bay Bridge.
