The RM's shoulder patch as seen in Resistance: Fall of Man
The Corps of Royal Marines, also known as Royal Marines Commandos, were a special forces unit of the British Armed Forces and later a mainstay of the British resistance effort against the Chimera during the Chimeran War. Men of the RM were easily distinguishable by their green commando berets and iconic shoulder patch.
History[]
During the Chimeran occupation of Britain, the Royal Marines conducted long range reconnaissance and special operations separate from mainline British Forces, often in close cooperation with the British Intelligence Corps under Captain Rachel Parker.
After Britain fell to the Chimera, the remnants of the Royal Marines came under the de facto command of then-Lieutenant Stephen Cartwright, officer commanding K-Troop. Presumably, this means that all higher ranking officers were either cut off or killed during the invasion.
Under Cartwright's command the unit distinguished itself as a quick reaction, special operations force; conducting multiple operations against the Chimera across Britain, including Operation Shear in Nottingham and later in mainland Europe as part of Operation Overstrike.
The unit was well-trained in reconnaissance and as an airborne unit for insertion by VTOL, yet suffered consistently heavy losses in combat against better armed, and more monstrous, Chimeran forces. Lightly equipped, if discovered in gray territory, even the capable men under Cartwright's command did not have the firepower or numbers to face down the Chimera head-on.
After the liberation of Britain from the Chimera following the Battle of London and the destruction of the London tower, a reorganised British military reentered continental Europe to aid the Maquis. Under Cartwright, who was promoted to Colonel and in command of British forces committed to the operations across France, Luxembourg and Germany, the Commandos distinguished themselves in action and contributed to the destruction of the Paris hub tower, and the subsequent liberation of Western Europe.
As British forces pushed on into Central and Eastern Europe, the Royal Marines presumably accompanied the main British and Allied forces, providing their expertise in reconnaissance and hard-earned knowledge of fighting the Chimera to the war effort.

Trivia[]
- Historically, the Royal Marines were an enduring part of the Royal Navy, providing protection for a ship's company and conducting boarding actions at sea. The Commandos were formed during the Second World War as an elite force to conduct amphibious and airborne raids on occupied Europe.
