Robert Taft
Robert Alphonso Taft was a Republican United States Senator from Ohio and a prominent conservative statesman, who was a proponent of non-interventionism in which he opposed U.S. involvement in World War II, opposed the creation of NATO, and criticized President Harry Truman's handling of the Korean War. In the alternate timeline of Resistance, Taft was opposed to American remilitarization and was responsible for helping Noah Grace to becoming the 33rd U.S. President.
Biography[]
Beginning in December 1938, Taft was a staunch isolationist who was opposed to the buildup of the U.S. Navy, which to secure maritime trade between America and the United European Defence, in which he viewed it as the first step towards international political involvement and foreign military endeavors.[1] He attempted to campaign against President Franklin D. Roosevelt in the 1940 Presidential Elections, but was unable to inspire a following due to being a lackluster public speaker. Instead, Taft inspired a young Junior Senator from Montana, Noah Grace, to challenge and defeat Roosevelt.[1] Grace ultimately achieved Taft's goals in keeping America out of international affairs, but with long-term consequences.
