Project Omega was a contingency plan created by United States President Noah Grace to serve as an optional solution to the Chimeran invasion in America by negotiating with the Chimera into a truce.

Background[]

Throughout the Chimeran War, the United States was initially neutral in the conflict until their participation in the liberation of the United Kingdom. Despite its neutrality, the U.S. was inevitably invaded by the Chimera on August 14, 1951. From August to November, the American Upper Midwest fell under gray territory, creating a war front in the north. The invasion resulted in millions of displaced refugees being forced to resettle in Protection Camps within or near the Liberty Defense Perimeter, or living in makeshift shanty towns. Food shortages became rampant due to the Chimera's weather-changing technology affecting the nation's farmlands. President Grace, fearing that America will not survive from the Chimeran onslaught, decided to make the unthinkable: to negotiate with the Chimera to spare America at the expense of the world.[1]

Overview[]

The terms of the intended truce were basically that America would not impede the Chimera in their conquest of the world, in exchange for the Chimera leaving America in peace. However, Grace and his Cabinet realized that the Chimeran entity known as Daedalus was the only Chimeran being that is communicable in the negotiations and that capturing him remains the top priority in the negotiations. Presidential Chief of Staff William Dentweiler was tasked in overseeing the capture of Daedalus.[1]

Learning that Daedalus possessed superior mental powers and still retaining his human feelings for his wife, Hannah Shepherd, Dentweiler procured Hannah to Sheridan, Wyoming and used her as bait to lure Daedalus. Hannah was tortured in order to send a mental signal to Daedalus. Dentweiler's plan worked in which Daedalus dispatched his forces to rescue his wife, who was implanted with a tracking device. American forces thereafter traced Daedalus' location and captured him after sedating him with harpoons containing 2000 cc of sedatives. Daedalus was then confined in a secret facility near Sheridan and was implanted with a electrode to prevent him from using his powers. To ensure Daedalus' cooperation in the negotiations, his captors used Hannah as a hostage.[1]

On December 24, after Daedalus became apparently receptive to the possibility of bilateral talks, President Grace traveled to Sheridan, under the guise of his Victory Tour, to negotiate with Daedalus. Grace even gave permission for a Chimeran battleship to enter over Sheridan after Daedalus requested a show of good faith. Grace delivered his offer to Daedalus, who was only left amused of the President's offer and had no intentions of honoring it. Just after Grace finished giving his offer to Daedalus, the President was abruptly killed by the Sentinel Nathan Hale, who had learned about Grace's insidious treachery from the audio recordings of former Secretary of War Henry Walker. Upon Grace's death, Daedalus took the opportunity to make his escape in which he unleashed a powerful mental blast, killing three people and paralyzing every human being within two-hundred yards, and destroying the electrode in the process. Daedalus then flew to the battleship and ordered it to destroy Sheridan and its surroundings in retaliation for his captivity before leaving the vicinity.[1]

Aftermath[]

The government hastily covered up Project Omega and Noah Grace's cause of death. Grace's death was publicly announced by his successor Vice President Harvey McCullen on December 25, claiming that his predecessor died from an "undisclosed illness."[2]
