For the alternate reality game, see Project Abraham (website).

Project Abraham was a top-secret bioengineering project under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of War which intended to eradicate the Chimeran virus that was currently overwhelming Europe during the outbreak of the Chimeran War. While the project's initiative was to discover a vaccine against the alien virus, in reality the project was used by the Special Research Projects Administration to create a class of super-soldiers called "Sentinels" to oppose the Chimera.[1]

The project took place in a U.S. military facility near Anchorage, Alaska. It lasted from November to December 1950, with a SRPA team of biochemical experts formulating several permutations of serums to be used on human volunteers.

History[]

The origins of Project Abraham began early as 1948.[1] The Special Research Projects Administration realized that normal human soldiers are physically insufficient to combat the Chimera as was later justified during the fall of Europe to the Chimera in early 1950. To solve this, SRPA Tactical Ops proposed the creation of enhanced soldiers that were on par with the Chimera.[1] Project Abraham was part of a multi-phased approach to cull volunteers from the military and subjects them to medical experimentation. All participants were forewarned about the hazardous procedure that will alter their genetic makeup. Project Abraham was operating under the pretense on the eradication of the Chimeran virus (which was known as the "European influenza" to the volunteers) and its real purpose to create super-soldiers were kept secret.[1]

Project Abraham recruited the best scientific minds from around the world and they worked under Dr. Fyodor Malikov, a foremost expert on the Chimera and the virus.[1] SRPA had estimated that the casualties of Project Abraham would not exceed 85%, if the project goes according to plan, and had deemed the high mortality rate as a necessity that will produce the formation of Sentinels that will turn the Chimeran War in humanity's favor.[1]

In December 1950, Project Abraham began using a serum based on Pure Chimera DNA recommended by Dr. Malikov.[2] The serum was used on Nathan Hale and Jordan Shepherd. Hale survived the experiment. Shepherd, whose immune system was compromised from an asymptomatic viral infection, instead drastically mutated into a Chimeran creature known as Daedalus.[3][4] Hale's recovery was deemed as a success in which his natural antibody production was essential in future studies. Hale's lab results were forwarded to Dr. Malikov, who began on finishing the project's findings.[5]

On December 15, 1950, Project Abraham was shut down and SRPA relocated the project's initiatives to Base Station Genesis.[6] In early January 1951, Project Abraham personnel began vacating the Alaskan facility and transferring to military bases in Phoenix, Denver, Houston and Little Rock.[7] By March 1951, the facility was nearly vacated and remaining personnel were destroying medical records and biological residues before Chimeran forces attacked the facility, forcing the survivors to retreat and finally abandoning the facility.[7]
