Pop-Up is a small settlement in Oklahoma that was formed during the Chimeran occupation. The settlement received its name from the fact that its citizens lived underground. It is located near the abandoned town of Kildare.
History[]
By 1954, Pop-Up's settlers survived from the Chimera's genocidal onslaught by living underground, with habitats being at least half a mile apart from each other, which meant that if Death Squads stumbled across one of the habitats, the others had a chance of surviving.[1] The residents usually kept to themselves apart from a loosely knit co-op-style government that primarily focused on providing some rudimentary health care and education. Due to being a small community, Pop-Up was ignored by the Chimera.[1]
Despite their spread out community, the people of Pop-Up formed a volunteer militia which could field up as many as thirty people. The locals are masters of camouflage and various field craft due to the settlement's location on a mostly flat and generally open terrain where the only cover were skeletal trees. Due to the lack of running water in their underground burrows, Pop-Up's people lack hygiene.[1]
In January 1954, Pop-Up was visited by six regulators from Tunnel-Through who wanted the community to join the New American Empire. The residents were upset by the way their "invitation" sounded like an order in which they violently declined the offer by killing five of the regulators; the sole survivor escaped.[1] A few days later on January 10, the neighboring community of Haven sent a delegation to Pop-Up and successfully recruited the community into their alliance against Tunnel-Through.[1]
