"...the operation was an exchange. The Americans were bringing supplies and tanks into York. We were giving them our one secret weapon. Something we could offer that they couldn't build themselves. I was the commander of the convoy team that was to meet the US soldiers. We were ambushed in Manchester on the way to the rendezvous. There was no way to warn the Americans. They were on their own in York, fighting an enemy they knew nothing about. We never learned exactly what happened there. All we know is that Nathan Hale was the sole survivor."
Rachel Parker[src]

Operation Deliverance was a U.S. Army Ranger military operation to deliver troops and supplies to the British Army in their war against the Chimera on July 11, 1951. The military aid was in exchange for a captured Angel being held by the British. The site of the exchange was at York, which was selected for its low Chimera activity.

Prelude[]

Britain was conquered by the Chimera in late 1950 and the British military was forced into retreat to scattered military bases and outposts. In mid-1951, the British managed to capture an Angel, an advanced Chimera, and negotiated with the United States for supplies and military support in exchange for the creature.[1] The Americans agreed to the exchange, which was set to take place in York as the rendezvous point due to the Chimera having few troops deployed there. A British convoy led by Captain Rachel Parker carrying the Angel was en route in meeting the Americans.[1]

Overview[]

Upon reaching the North Sea in June 1951, the U.S. fleet deployed aerial surveillance craft over the British coast. No signs of human or animal life were detected and, unable to establish radio contact with British forces, the U.S. fleet initiated the operation.[2]

However, the operation failed before it had even began. The Cloven had intercepted the radio message and, for reasons that are still unknown, lured a large Chimeran force to York.[3] The Chimera held the entire city and were prepared for an attack. The British convoy was ambushed in Manchester and many of its escorts were killed or converted. Captain Parker was captured during the attack.[1] The fight for control of the convoy would rage for hours.

Without the British warning the Americans, the task force were left fighting an enemy they knew nothing about.[1] The U.S. 3rd Ranger Regiment were flew into York via U/AV-17 VTOLs to secure a forward landing site, but the fleet was completely decimated by Chimeran anti-aircraft fire from Chimeran Stalkers.[4] Desperate to salvage the attack, the Americans launched a second wave of fighters. The 1st Ranger Regiment flew into York, and soon a pitched battle ensued. It is during this fierce battle that one of the U.S. Army Rangers, Sergeant Nathan Hale, was infected with the Chimeran virus and gained Chimeran abilities.[1]

With air support wiped out and many soldiers suffering heavy casualties, either dying from the Chimera or infected by Crawlers, a small collection of survivors led by Baker Company's Captain Winters attempted to secure a landing zone at the bus depot for additional reinforcements while holding off Chimeran forces. Winters' men were provided timely assistance by Nathan Hale and successfully secured the depot.[1] However, their victory was brutally and quickly undone as the Chimera launched Spire missiles at the depot, releasing swarms of Crawlers that overrun and infected the surviving U.S. forces.[5] The infected and comatose soldiers were then taken by Carriers to a conversion center in Grimsby. Operation Deliverance ended in a complete disaster.
