NYC 1

New York City seen from a frozen New York Harbor depicted in Resistance 3.

New York City is the most populous city in both the state New York and the United States. Located on a large natural harbor on the Atlantic coast of the Northeastern United States, the city consists of five boroughs: The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island. On August 14, 1951, New York was attacked by the Chimera.

History[]

On August 14, 1951, New York City was among the first American cities that were attacked by the Chimera.[1] The U.S. military ordered an evacuation of the city in which hundreds of thousands of people boarded ships, entered tunnels, and crossed bridges. The Minutemen, a militia group, helped to protect fleeing citizens while fighting the Chimera. As the evacuation continues, the Chimera attempted to stop the evacuation in which they slaughtered thousands. The Chimera attempted to cross the George Washington Bridge to New Jersey, but the bridge was destroyed in an human airstrike.[2] Eventually, New York City fell to the Chimera. At some point, the Chimera excavated a Chimeran tower on Manhattan Island.

On June 26, 1953, the nuclear destruction of the Chimeran fleet during the events of Operation Black Eden created a massive power surge in the Chimeran tower network that channeled to the Chimeran tower in New York City to open a wormhole to the Pure Chimera's home planet.[3] The SRPA launched a desperate attempt to destroy the New York tower in order to close the wormhole. But their attack ended in disaster; the tower was heavily guarded by hundreds of Goliaths and Stalkers in which they inflicted over a thousand human casualties.[4][5] The assault lasted for only two days and any human soldiers left in the city were hunted down by the Chimera.[6]

By 1957, the Chimera used the wormhole in their integral plot to terraform Earth by cooling down the planet. This not only suits the Chimera's need for a cooler environment, but also to eradicate the last remnants of humanity in the process. However, the tower keeping the wormhole open was eventually destroyed by former Sentinel Joseph Capelli and the Remnants led by Charlie Tent in which they collided a terraformer into the tower. Without the tower, the wormhole was closed off from Earth and the planet's temperature was reverted back to normal.[7]

In the following years after the Chimera on Earth were defeated, New York City was rebuilt.[7]
