Lieutenant Murphy was the leader of Sentinel Alpha Team who appears in Resistance.

Biography

In January 1951, Murphy led Alpha Team in the recovery of an atomic bomb from Chimera-occupied Fort Anchorage. He and his team founded the base's sole survivor, Dr. J. Robert Oppenheimer, and learned from him of how the Chimera invaded Alaska from Russia through the Bering land-bridge created from the aliens' weather-changing technology.

Murphy and his team managed to recover the bomb, but only to be inadvertently taken on board a Chimeran airship. He and his men fended off hordes of Chimera while planning to dispose the bomb by dropping off the airship. However, Murphy ignored his objective and sought to save his men. He does so by telling Oppenheimer to save himself and the others after he tricked everyone to go inside a tank and bail out. Following this Murphy sacrificed his life by detonating the bomb, destroying the airship in the process.

In Murphy's postmortem, SRPA officials find him at fault for ruining the entire mission for failing to recover the bomb, inadvertently causing Oppenheimer's untimely death, and causing a significant setback to the American nuclear weapons program. However, Murphy's subordinate Joseph Capelli defended his actions, as the bomb's detonation also destroyed the Bering land-bridge and irradiated the entire area, making it impossible for the Chimera to launch a land invasion of North America and thereby saving millions of human lives.
