Michael Alexandrovich

Michael Alexandrovich

Grand Duke Michael Alexandrovich of Russia was the youngest son and fifth child of Emperor Alexander III of Russia and youngest brother of Nicholas II. He was de jure Emperor of Russia after Nicholas II abdicated in 1917 and proclaimed his brother "Emperor Michael II", but Michael declined to take power. Following the Russian Revolution of 1917, he was imprisoned and murdered. In the alternate timeline of Resistance, Michael accepted as Emperor of Russia and led a brutal reign.

Biography[]

When the Great War turned against Russia's favor, Nicholas II abdicated in 1917 and appointed his brother Michael as his successor, becoming Tsar Michael. Under his leadership he led the Imperial Russian Army in crushing a Bolshevik uprising in 1917. But in 1918, Russia was summarily defeated by Germany. Determined to save his legacy, Tsar Michael signed the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk in which he relinquished Russia's claims to several territories in Eastern Europe.[1]

As a result of the treaty, Russia fell into civil war in which Tsar Michael led his government in quelling the uprising, but only to sow further unrest for the next several years.[1] Tsar Michael's government grew more repressive in which it ultimately led Russia to its seclusion from the outside world by sealing its borders.
