"The Chimera are prefect killing machines, but they have no thought beyond what the hive mind tells them."
Fyodor Malikov[src]

The hive mind is the mental network of the Chimeran race. It allows Chimeran soldiers to communicate telepathically with and falling under the command of the superior strains of the Chimeran hierarchy, such as Angels and Pure Chimera. It was discovered during the Chimeran War by SRPA on observation of the late Sentinel, Nathan Hale.[1]

The Chimera were reliant on the hive mind through the Angel strain, who were mentally linked with the lower Chimeran strains during the early years of the Chimeran War. It was revealed during the events of Operation Morning Star that the Chimera cannot survive without the presence of the Angels; eliminating the Angels would sever the lower ranking Chimeran strains from the hive mind and causing them to die out.[2]

The Chimera, under the leadership of Daedalus, would later deemed the Angel strain a liability and replaced them with a new hierarchy of powerful and higher ranking Chimeran strains to command the lesser strains.[3]

Since the Chimera's victory in the Chimeran War in 1953, the Chimera began rejecting the lesser strains, such as the Leaper and Grim, which they managed to survive without the influence of the hive mind and becoming independently wild, and even turning against the Chimera who remained part of the hive mind. These Feral Chimera posed a serious threat to their military counterparts and humans, in which they are observed to show high aggressiveness to intruders who entered their territory.
