Henry Walker was the United States Secretary of War who served under the Noah Grace administration.
Biography[]
Walker was hailed from Chicago and was sixty-three years old as of 1951. He was retired colonel who later became Secretary of War. While serving under Grace, Walker grew to despise the President's authoritarian rule, and similarly disliked the other members of Grace's Cabinet due to their sycophantic loyalty to the President. Vice President Harvey McCullen was the exception, as Walker considered him his only friend and ally. Despite the friction, Walker was accepted in Grace's inner circle due to his powerful connections to the military. When the Chimera began their invasion of North America, Walker brought the U.S. military onto a wartime footing.
On November 16, 1951, Walker was present with the Cabinet when Grace revealed to them Project Omega - a proposed negotiation between America and the Chimera to settle on a truce. Walker and McCullen were the only people to strongly oppose Grace's proposal despite the President's reassurance that it was only an optional contingency plan. Unwilling to believe Grace's words, Walker used a pocket-sized wire recorder to secretly record the details of Project Omega. When Grace divulged the conditions of the truce which he planned to have only the United States spared from the Chimera at the expense of the rest of the world, Walker snapped and protested in outrage. However, to Walker's disgust, the Cabinet overwhelmingly gave their support to Project Omega. Walker then made the decision to flee Washington, D.C. with his wife Myra and planned to expose Grace's conspiracy to the public.
Walker and his wife Myra traveled to Chimera-controlled Chicago to meet the resistance group, Freedom First, in order to gain their assistance to broadcast the recording on public radio. The Grace administration soon became aware of Walker's defection and ordered a manhunt of the former Secretary of War, either dead or alive.
While being escorted to Chicago by a runner, Twitch Saunders, the Walkers were discovered and captured by a Chimeran patrol. They were then taken to a former mining pit, which had been turned into a makeshift conversion center, near Madison, Wisconsin. The prisoners were kept alive until they were taken to be converted. The Chimera dumped supplies to the pit, which led to groups competing for them. Walker was part of the "Fair and Square Squad", which divided the resources evenly. Walker befriended a fellow prisoner, Harley Burl. Walker came into conflict with Marcus Tolly over the supplies which provoked the latter to retaliate by having Myra taken away by the Chimera to be converted. Walker responded by setting Tolly on fire.
When the prisoners launched a breakout using an escape tunnel, Walker informed Burl about Project Omega before the latter made his escape. Walker was converted before SRPA conducted a rescue mission over the mining pit. Burl later informed Walker's intentions to expose Grace to the Sentinel Hale, who would obtain and listen Walker's recording. The revelation of Project Omega led Hale to kill Grace during the President's negotiation with Daedalus.
