The U/AV-17 Hawk is a VTOL aircraft used by the United States Army.
Overview[]
Created shortly after the issues plaguing its predecessor, the UH-17 Atlas was resolved in 1937, the U/AV-17 Hawk was developed at the request of the Roosevelt Administration, who wanted a a new, nimble aircraft with a high payload capacity for the United States Armed Forces. This led to the creation of the Hawk, with the aircraft going through several iterations, before the Armed Forces finally agreed to purchase it. The development of the Hawk would prove revolutionary, as it allowed a newer and more efficient mode of transportation during combat. Aside from transportation of troops, the Armed Forces also requested that the Hawk be able to carry tanks, which would prove extremely valuable for the Armed Forces during the Chimeran War, as it allowed Allied armies to quickly ferry supplies and troops to the battlefield.
Additionally, several European countries began utilizing the Hawk as a blueprint for their own VTOL aircraft, with the United Kingdom's P-1117 Kingfisher having been derived from an earlier iteration of the Hawk.
The Hawk is considered to be the most versatile transport used by the military as it possesses a high payload capacity, capable of carrying tanks, and after deploying troops can either provide tactical support from its .30 caliber door guns and/or its .50 caliber nose-mounted guns or return to be loaded with additional military deployment(s).
Resistance: Fall of Man[]
During the events of Operation Deliverance, American forces were deployed to the United Kingdom as part of a military exchange with the British Armed Forces. Transported by aircraft carriers, a fleet of Hawks were deployed to York, dropping the 3rd and 1st Ranger Regiments to clear a landing zone, allowing the Hawks to unload their supplies once they rendezvoused with the British. Unfortunately, the rendezvous failed as York was heavily occupied by the Chimera. The Hawks were shot down by Chimeran anti-aircraft fire, primarily from Chimeran mortars and Stalkers, leaving the Rangers stranded with no air support and they were ultimately wiped out.
The Hawk participated in the joint American and British assault on London. During the assault, many Hawks were shot down by Stalkers roaming the city, but some were able to deploy soldiers and M-12 Sabertooth tanks.
A SRPA Hawk was used to extract Nathan Hale outside of London shortly after the destruction of the London tower.

Resistance 2[]
Prior to the Chimeran invasion of the United States, the U.S. military upgraded the Hawk with additional design features including a refueling probe and a sleeker black finish to support stealth operations. These Hawks would prove valuable to the military, transporting SRPA forces to and from battlefields with ease. However, with the introduction of Chimeran Hellfire and AA Turrets, and the Chimeran fighters within the Chimeran air fleet, numerous VTOLs were shot down over the course of the invasion.
The Hawk played a pivotal role in military operations such as Twin Falls, Bryce Canyon and Chicago.
Resistance: A Hole in the Sky[]
Sometime after the events of Operation Black Eden, parts of the remaining Hawks were cannibalized or replaced with lower quality material, in an effort to ensure its continued functionality. This was noticeable with the addition of two engines, each one mounted on one wing. By July 1953, barely a fraction of the Air Force's initial Hawks strength remained, with many surviving VTOLs scattered throughout the country with little fuel reserves.
As remnants of SRPA and the U.S. military became aware of the nature of the Chimeran wormhole, they grew increasingly concerned and decided to launch a desperate assault on the Chimeran-occupied stronghold in an attempt to shut it down. With Thomas Voss, now-President issuing a rallying call, with the last remaining elements of the Armed Forces, alongside several milita groups responding to his plea. On July 4th, to coincide with the nation's 177th birthday, the Armed Forces launched their futile assault. Intercepted almost immediately after arriving, a heavy Stalker and Goliath presence at the base of the tower would down roughly 60% of the initial invasion force, trapping many men behind enemy lines. Chimeran Dropships deployed served as hunter-killer units and many downed the remaining VTOLs still active. By the end of the day, all remaining VTOLs were shot down, and survivors were hunted by Chimeran forces.
This catastrophic failure effectively wiped out SRPA and the United States Armed Forces, and with little resemblance of a command structure and manpower, the Chimera were able to carry out their plan to further cool the planet.
Resistance 3[]
The resistance group, the Remnants, came into possession of a Hawk. Ellis Turner served as the Hawk's pilot and mechanic.
By 1957, the Remnants had launched an attack on Chimeran forces, splitting up into two teams, with Charlie Tent's group distracting Stalker units as Ellis and his VTOL crew, consisting of Glenda and Martin providing over watch. However, during the battle, nearby Chimeran Dropships ambushed the group, heavily damaging the VTOL and forcing the team to flee from the battlefield. Having arriving in St. Louis mere minutes earlier, Joseph Capelli and Dr. Fyodor Malikov intercepted their mayday call, with Capelli arriving to save the VTOL crew from being overwhelmed by Chimeran forces. However, the Remnants were forced to abandon their Hawk, retreating back to their safe-house, where Charlie and Capelli brokered a deal: in exchange for medicine and a ride to NYC, he would assist the group in downing a Chimeran Dropship to secure a new power supply for the Hawk.
Despite the chaos and the heavy casualties that the Remnants suffered in the fighting, the group was still able to recover the power supply, and a grateful Charlie agreed to fly Capelli and Malikov to New York City. Flying over Mount Pleasant, the Hawk was attacked by a nearby Chimeran Dropship patrol that thrown Capelli out. Charlie soon dropped off Malikov at a nearby railway before departing to Oklahoma to check on Capelli's family's safety.
After having confirmed the safety of Capelli's family, the Remnants intercepted Capelli's transmission in New York City, narrowly rescuing him just as he became overwhelmed by Chimeran forces. Soon after, at the urging of Capelli, Charlie reluctantly agreed to assist him in bringing down the nearby Terraformer to crash into the Chimeran tower. Their sabotage of its navigation proved successful, as the Terraformer began a collision course to the tower. Barely rescuing Capelli, the trio fled the city just as the Terraformer destroyed the Tower, closing the wormhole. After this, the trio returned to Baxter Springs where Capelli was reunited with his family.

Trivia[]
- The U/AV-17 has striking resemblance to the real life V-22 Osprey.
- In addition, elements of the U/AV-17 resemble those found on the CH-53 Sea Stallion and its family.
- The U/AV-17's guns can be taken apart and used as a makeshift HVAP Wraith as shown in Resistance (comics).
- In early previews for Resistance 3, the Hawk came into the possession of a "gang of greasers" in St. Louis, Missouri.[1]
- The fuel lines of the U/AV-17 are seemingly vulnerable to damage by enemy fire, as in Resistance 2 one of the soldiers during the approach to Bryce Canyon will tell the player to hurry and clear the landing zone before the fuel lines are hit, and the Hawk that was used to enter Chicago was grounded by damaged fuel lines.[2][3]
