BRAVE BOY MAKES DESPERATE
ATTEMPT TO SAVE BROTHER'S LIFE

When Closton Brown (9) accidentally shot himself,
his older brother Channing (12) carried him eleven
miles to reach aid. Closton unfortunately expired at
the farm of Elisha and Merta Bahning, where his
brother had brought him for assistance. "It's a double
tragedy," Elisha Bahning said. "After such a brave
struggle on Channing's part, to not be able to save
Closton."

The younger boy had evidently snuck out of the
house, intent on shooting a she-bear on Tusel Creek.
When the older boy noticed him missing, he went
after him, but found him only after the younger boy
had fatally injured himself. Sheriff Arnold Anderson
said that Closton, who was small for his age, might
have tripped carrying his rifle.

The deceased was the middle son of the Rev. Ketchum
Brown and Ada Brown. Services will be held Tuesday
night at 7:30 at Swan Cove Baptist Church.
