PANAMA CITY, PANAMA - On July 30th, U.S. Military forces in Panama City sighted
four Chimeran airships flying southeast toward Columbia. In the ensuing three days
the airships blanketed the continent with wave after wave of spire attacks. U.S.
reconnaissance estimates that the Chimera targeted every city with population over
100,000. The Chimera have now begun to excavate towers across the continent.
President McCullen today reiterated his open border policies to refugees from the
affected countries, but the spread and ruthless efficiency of the attack leaves the grim
prospect that the refugee count is likely to be quite small. The USS Bataan and USS
Tarawa are currently patrolling the coasts in search of survivors from the attack.
Trivia[]
- The USS Tarawa aircraft carrier itself is inconsistent in the Resistance universe because the Tarawa is named after the bloody 1943 Battle of Tarawa during World War II. As World War II never occurred in the Resistance universe, it seems unlikely that the US would choose to name a ship after a tiny Pacific island at random. The same situation applies to the Bataan, as the carrier was named after the World War II battle that took place at Bataan. Furthermore, the American military base at Bataan was established when Spain ceded the Philippines to the United States after the U.S. victory in the Spanish-American War, another conflict that did not take place in the Resistance timeline.
